Workforce Solutions is proud to sponsor the 3rd Annual Texas Foster Youth Conference on April 24-25. Workforce Solution’s objective is to provide all youth, especially foster youth, with the opportunity to explore educational and training options to prepare them to make informed career decisions.

Foster Youth across Texas are invited to attend. Workshops on employment and life skills will be offered, providing attendees with guidance on personal issues. Topics include: budgeting; cultural diversity; well-being; job readiness; budgeting, legal rights and career exploration. A simulated exercise entitled “Independent City,” will provide younger youth a realistic lesson in preparing for independent living.

Representatives from colleges and universities throughout Texas will be available to provide information and answer questions on the admissions process. Additionally, social service agencies, training institutions and employers will be available to provide information and resources to attendees.

LaToya Brown, a former foster youth is the featured keynote speaker for this event. Ms. Brown is a renowned humanitarian, inspirational speaker, social worker and author. LaToya Brown is the author of Borrowed Water.

The conference begins on Friday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m. at the Omni Hotel Marina, 701 N. Shoreline Blvd., and continues on Saturday, April 25 at the Solomon Ortiz Center, 402 Harbor Dr.

The targeted audience is youth aged 14-25.

Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be awarded at $10.00.

Early registration is $50.00 and ends on April 10th, 2009. Registration after April 10th is $75.00. The registration fee includes all meals and refreshments.
